It is one of Taiwan’s most iconic hiking destinations, known for its alpine landscapes, sea of clouds, and stunning sunrise views. The most common route to the summit is via the Tataka Trail. LOCATION: Mount Yushan is located in Yushan National Park, spanning the counties of Nantou, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.
ENTRY POINT: The entry point for the standard route is at the Tataka Trailhead in Yushan National Park.
EXIT POINT: The exit point is usually the same as the entry point (Tataka Trailhead), as most hikers follow a backtrail route.
DIFFICULTY:Â The hike is considered moderate to challenging, with well-established trails but involving long trekking hours, high altitude conditions, and steep sections. Proper acclimatization and physical preparation are important.
HEIGHT: Mount Yushan stands at approximately 3,952 meters (12,966 feet) above sea level, making it the highest mountain in Taiwan.
HOURS TO SUMMIT: The climb typically takes 2 days and 1 night.
  Day 1: Trek from Tataka Trailhead to Paiyun Lodge (6–8 hours)
  Day 2: Early morning summit push (2–3 hours) and descent (4–6 hours)
